Memory spots can appear in any language, including PHP. These memory leaks happen in small increments that allow time to accumulate, or large jumps that show up quickly. In any case, if your application has a memory leak, sooner or later it will cause problems.

I’ve noticed that when APC is enabled, a lot of Apache steps are created and it can consume memory very quickly. Our client-server placed two bottles, because they pointed to memory.

  • Configuration: Linux CentOS 7MariaDBApache 2.2php 5.4.16 with APCenabled JSMIN.CPU 4: coresRAM: 17 GB, already mentioned 3 GB. I did a bulk update that updated the account registration or ALL associated records. These are bulk operations, but the device’s memory usage never exceeded 3GB if I left APC disabled. When I switched it was easy to go from 2GB to 6GB. Are there any known issues with APC builds that you are aware of?

Why is PHP memory management so bad?

Let’s be clear: PHP is likely to be a scripting language and probably not designed for long running website programs, so its memory management isn’t the best. But why should it be? Its function must be called at the new request level, so its execution time is quite short (no more than 2-3 seconds).
